Work Experience, Education and Services

Current Work.

I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS). My current role is based within a housing company where I work with 16-25 year olds and I work privately. Previously I worked as a Specialist Counselling Psychologist for the NHS within a Pain Management Service in County Durham.

Past Work.

I am a trained Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) and EMDR Practitioner and I have worked within various different settings including an Affective Disorders Team in County Durham.  During my time with the Affective Disorders Team I worked with service users who were experiencing mental health difficulties such as depression, anxiety, personality disorders, psychosis, OCD, PTSD etc.

Prior to this I worked just under 6 years within an IAPT (Increasing Access To Psychological Therapies) Service. Within the IAPT service I worked with individuals who were experiencing common mental health difficulties such as depression, anxiety, phobias, OCD, PTSD etc.

During my Doctorate in Counselling Psychology training which I completed in 2012 I have been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity of working in an array of different settings both long term and short term with a variety of mental health difficulties. These have included; the voluntary sector - bereavement, domestic violence services, within police custody.

Court Reports.
In addition I complete reports for the Courts on a regular basis within the United Kingdom. These reports are completed for local and national solicitors.

CAT Therapy.

I work in a very person centered and integrative manner. I am currently also working towards accreditation in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) which as described by ACAT is:

"CAT stands for Cognitive Analytic Therapy; a collaborative programme for looking at the way a person thinks, feels and acts, and the events and relationships that underlie these experiences (often from childhood or earlier in life). As its name suggests, it brings together ideas and understanding from different therapies into one user-friendly and effective therapy.

It is a time-limited therapy - between 4 and 24 weeks, but typically 16.

At its heart is an empathic relationship between the client and therapist within the therapeutic boundaries, the purpose of which is to help the client make sense of their situation and to find ways of making changes for the better."

Supervision.
I provide supervision to current psychologists or psychologist in training and counsellors. I completed the BPS accredited supervision course in April 2018.
